Scott moved to Alaska as a young adult and soon learned that aviation was a part of normal life in Alaska. It was not long before he had a private pilot ticket and a little two seat aircraft. Over the years he added Commercial SES, CFI and Commercial Rotorcraft ratings. In his twenties he worked as a hunting guide where he started to learn mountain flying and off airport operations. In the early 1990s he went to work for the primary law enforcement agency in Alaska. He has been a pilot for the department for 20 years and currently flies both fixed wing aircraft and helicopters on patrols, investigations and search and rescue missions. He is a department instructor and check airman. Much of the instruction he provides relates to off-airport operations on floats, tundra tires and skis and operations remote, inhospitable terrain. He is a member of the Safety and Standardization Committee for his department where he participates in writing standard operating procedures and safety standards.

Scott and his wife Karen have long had a keen interest in aviation missions and have both volunteered, Karen in logistics and Scott as a pilot. They both feel strongly that dedicated missionaries with quality pilot training have and will continue to play a vital role in bringing the Gospel to all corners of the earth. It is Scott’s desire that his aviation experience will ultimately help prepare MATA pilot candidates for missions around the world.
